Kids Can Build High school students Rania Adam, Ayden Berchtold, Abigail Elliott and Jeremiah Rice recently participated in the Kids Can Build contest, with guidance from science teacher Chris Ruston and health teacher Sue Anderson.

The four creative students put in numerous hours using a variety of architectural and engineering software programs, as well as their exceptional artistic and math skills, to design, shop for and then build a sculpture using more than 3,000 cans and 350 bags of rice and beans.

Their entry was judged by CHOW against sculptures from various other school districts in Broome County and we are proud to say our students' masterpiece was recognized with the Best Overall Design award.

Following the contest, the structure was dismantled and the food items were donated to CHOW for distribution to food pantries across Broome County.

We would like to thank local sponsors BAE Systems, IBI, Visions Federal Credit Union, IBM, Lockheed Martin and BLI for providing the funds to purchase the food items.
