Ag in the Classroom teaches about rabbitsRepresentatives from Cornell Cooperative Extension Broome County visited the 1st-graders today to talk about rabbits as part of the ongoing Ag in the Classroom program at JC. Students first listened to the story "Peter Rabbit" and then had the opportunity to see and touch a live rabbit. Mrs. Abbott's class met "Pierre", a breed of rabbit classified as a lionhead because of the mane-like fur around its head. The class learned that rabbits can reach speeds up to 35 m.p.h., baby rabbits are called kits (short for kittens), and, like deer, adult males are known as bucks and females are does. The visit ended with the students eating some blueberries and lettuce, a rabbit's favorite food!
