District

Our district is located in The village of Johnson City which is nestled in the rolling hills of Broome County in the Southern Tier of New York. Adjacent to the City of Binghamton. The village was established in 1892, through the efforts of European immigrants who worked in the Endicott-Johnson shoe factories. Though the shoe factories are gone, Johnson City continues to develop with a combination of city and suburban neighborhoods, open country land, businesses, retail mall and restaurants.

Johnson City is located near the major Interstates 88 and 81, and is right on Rte. 17. Johnson City and its neighboring communities offer a wide range of activities including the Roberson Museum and Science Center, the Discovery Center, the Kopernik Observatory, the Cider Mill Playhouse and the Tri-Cities Opera. Binghamton University and Broome Community College both offer a wide variety of social, cultural and educational experiences.

Johnson City has been designated by the New York State Department of Education as a Focus District.  All Focus Districts are required to develop a District Comprehensive Improvement Plan (DCIP) that details how the district plans to improve instruction and address the identified needs of Focus, Priority, and Local Assistance Plan (LAP) Schools.
