County Executive Challenge winnersHigh school students Selena Kasmarcik, Haleema Saadia, Taylor Blanton, Shanya Lassiter and Tu Meh recently participated in the first-ever County Executive's Challenge for Change. Under the guidance of high school history teacher Judy Gleason, the students put together a presentation that addresses the possibility of providing an opportunity for on-campus vaccinations to reduce the likelihood that a child will be excluded from school due to a lack of mandatory immunizations. They gathered school data, reached out to United Health Services and created a school survey. For their hard work, they won 1st place in the challenge and were awarded $1,500 toward continuing their endeavor. At its meeting on December 17, the JC Board of Education recognized the students for their impressive accomplishment. Stay tuned for more information about this ambitious group's continuing effort.
